Jardine Middle School opened its doors
in 1961 for 7th, 8th, and 9th grade students as a junior
high school. In 1980, Jardine became a middle school for
7th and 8th grades; and in 1992, 6th grade joined our
school. Jardine is an urban middle school,
part of Topeka Public Schools (USD #501) and is located in
the southern part of Topeka, Kansas. We are the second
largest middle school in our district with an enrollment
close to 500 students. We have 7 feeder elementary schools
and receive students from all 21 elementary schools in the
Topeka Public Schools system. We then send our 8th grade
students to all 3 TPS high schools. Jardine utilizes a Flexible Teaming
schedule. There are no bells, and all 3 grade levels are on
separate schedules and housed in separate areas of the
school. Since we incorporated this schedule, our discipline
referrals and suspensions continue to decline. Jardine has met AYP for 4 years (2002,
2004, 2006, 2008). Our schedule also allows us to provide
daily enhancement time to review state tested indicators in
reading and math. Over 50% of our students are on the
quarterly honor roll. Over 60% of our students meet
requirements for the Jaguar Club, our citizenship program.
Our students also continue to be first in the city in most
of our sports activities. Jardine students and staff believe
that students must actively participate in the development
of their own education; students are accountable for own
successes; and parental support and involvement is necessary
for optimum success in education. We are Jardine---Home of Scholars and
Athletes. IT'S GREAT TO BE A
JAGUAR!!
